Visiting the United Arab Emirates ( Dubai and Abu Dhabi) for a Holiday

Eldorado
Eldorado was known as the proverbial city of gold and Dubai and Abu Dhabi( to a lesser extent) are close this concept of the fantasy city. Tall skyscrapers, Shopping malls, entertainment, Bars, Restaurants and natural sights make this the place to spend a wonderful holiday. There is a stream of visitors and it will interest readers to know that Dubai airport is the second busiest air port in the world. A tourist visa to Dubai costs about Rs 5000 and is easy to get. The validity for entry is 60 days and one can stay in the UAE for 30 days
Car Museum
Where does one begin? The Car Museum about a 100 km from Abu Dhabi is a good place to visit. It has over 1000 cars , some of them vintage models on display. Entry is a 100 Dirhams ( $25)  and a visitor will require about 2-3 hours to do justice to the cars and desert vehicles displayed. A classic exhibit is the largest Jeep ever made and it is recorded that it ran for one km.

Gold Souk

Dubai is a duty free paradise and what better to buy than gold, particularly Asians who have a great love for this metal. teh Gold Souk isa very old market in Dubai and is a pedestrian plaza. Magnificent designs of jewelery are on display and even if you don't want or have teh money to buy, a visitor can get hereself photographed with the exotic designs. This is in the heart of Dubai and has an old world charm
The Burj Khalifa
Another place to visit is the world tallest man made structure. This is an engineering marvel and one is allowed to go up to the 146th floor in superfast lifts. The Burj gives a panoramic view of teh city and is open 24 hours round the clock. A visit will take about an hour and the entrance is 200 Dirhams ( $50). You can get yourself photographed with the Burj as a background and it will be $25. On the 146th floor is a lovely open air eatery and one can get a variety of snacks.

Al Alain Zoo

This is in Abu Dhabi and is about a 100 km from the capital of Abu Dhabi. Al alain is the green belt of Abu Dhabi and its a marvel that the desert has been transformed  into a place with so much greenery. The entrance is 100 Dirhams  and one can ride around the zoo in an electric car. Exotic animals are on display with a retinue of workers from the sub-continent
.
          Miracle garden
Dubai hosts the miracle garden that is a place you can spend an entire day. It has lovely flowers and shrubs that are so grown that they model everything from the Elfin Tower to the motorcar. A lovely train of flowers  is an absolute delight. Inside there are excellent eating joints and one can have a gourmets delight.
Shoppers Paradise

Dubai and Abu Dhabi is a shoppers paradise and Malls dot the country. One can buy everything under the sun. All items are at cost price( some heavily discounted especially during events like the Dubai Shopping Festival). If you have the money buy as much as you can . With liberalized rules for import for Indians , its the place to stack up. The malls are themselves places of great joy with dances, music and eating places.
Mercure Resort at Al Hafeet Mountains
This is one place a visitor must travel and spend a day. it is located about 150km fro Abu Dhabi and is high up in the mountains. its cold, but there is a heated swimming pool and lovely belly dancers. Great place to spend a day.

Last word
These are just a few and I have touched on just a  tip of the iceberg. there is lots more with Desert safari's, Dhow cruise,  Balloon flight and bus tour. A string of the best bars are available and maybe one could strike friendship with a Russian girl or a exotic Indian girl who abound here.
