The incident in the Pakistan High Commission on celebration of Pakistan day could have been avoided. the star player in this entire episode is general VK Singh who has not exactly covered himself with glory, with a childish and amateurish approach,
23 March was Pakistan day celebration and as usual the High Commission had sent out invitations to many dignitaries including the Government of India. They as usual also invited the leaders of the separatist Hurriat to attend also.
General VK Singh as the Minister of State was deputed to attend the dinner and and he reportedly left after 10 minutes. The problem is that late at night he tweeted two contentious tweets. Firstly he tweeted that he attended ass a 'Duty" and secondly he tweeted his "disgust". This was totally unnecessary More so he undermined the authority of the Prime Minister who had deputed him to attend the dinner.
If Singh had any objection he should have brought it out before the dinner and not after the dinner, late at night. Obviously Modi and the government is not pleased and the general has been pulled up. I wonder if the general is thinking he is bigger than India. He was a representative of India and it was a matter of protocol. There was no excuse of the general tweeting his 'disgust'. I am afraid the general has done himself great harm and has cut his wings in the rise to further position and power. I won't be surprised if he is eased out. In any case he has cut a sorry figure.
