My take on all of this is that Bernie Sanders, in one of the greatest upsets in American political history, will be elected the next president of the United States.

Angela Merkel taken for a Ride on refugee Issue

The German chancellor Angela Merkel appears to have been fooled. Her sense of a humanitarian crises and desire to help the Muslim refugees swamping Europe seems to have been misplaced. Germany under her stewardship was the foremost country to champion absorption of the Muslim refugees from the Middle East and North Africa. One wonders what guided her line of thought. Maybe the race politics of Hitler played on her psyche and she wanted to show a “different” face of Germany.

Angela Merkel however misread the situation. Maybe she was not convarsant with the true face of Islam. The net result is that many hard core Muslim fanatics owing allegiance to Al Qaeda and ISI have entered Germany in the guise of refugees.The recent discovery of a cache of arms has complicated the issue. These terrorists in the guise of refugees are bound to foment terrorist acts in Germany and Europe. There is no doubt that the German Chancellor has been led up the garden path. I wonder her being a woman has anything to do with this blunder.

matters seem to grow from bad to worse as these Muslim men have not been able to adjust to the freedom of women as they see. there have many attacks and rapes of white women in Germany. In Cologne during New Years eve  at least two German women were raped and scores molested.There has been outrage,  but this was expected and the German political leadership led by Merkel may have to pay a deadly price for this. 

As things stand, thousands of refugees have entered Europe and despite efforts of some nations the swelling tide cannot be stopped.

The subject of propaganda by itself is very interesting, but studying how the Nazi’s perfected it is very illuminating. One can apply it to the 21^st century and realize that propaganda is one of the pillars of modern governance. One of the pots worth reading is by David Welch who wrote “Nazi Propaganda and the Volksgemeinschaft: Constructing a Peoples Community”. This was published in the Journal of Contemporary History, 2004. A study of this paper gives a chance to decipher the Nazi mind and how they could control the German People. It will not be wrong to say that Nazi propaganda brain washed the German people. The two key elements of a society are the youth and Industrial workers. Nazi propaganda was directed at these two pillars and was eminently successful.

Revolutionary aim

The Nazi party headed by Hitler had very clear objectives. Dr. Goebbels, the Propaganda Minster was instrumental in fine tuning German propaganda. His statement “A lie repeated a 100 times becomes a truth” formed one of the pillars of his propaganda machinery. As per David Welch the Nazi regime had a very ambitious plan. The aim was to significantly motivate the German people with a revolutionary aim. The idea was to so motivate the people that they became willing subjects of the German state and identified with the aim and ideals of the Nazi party.

The Nazi part thus used all instruments of state policy like the radio, Gestapo, the party, local officials as well as the Judiciary in this grand scheme. But before convincing the people the Nazi party convinced the abovementioned instruments of state policy about the legitimacy of the ideals and aims of the state and party. These officials now fanned out and subverted the minds of the people. At the same time The Nazi party through various agencies kept a watch on ‘dissidents’ who were neutral or anti to the ideals of the Party and state and weeded them out. This was done unobtrusively and without publicity.

The Task for Dr. Goebbels

Realizing the importance of propaganda the German’s set up an exclusive ministry for this purpose. It was effusively called “Ministry of Popular Enlightenment and Propaganda” and was headed by Dr. Goebbels. Credit must go to this man in clearly defining the parameters in which the ministry functioned. Basically he sub divided the aims and ideals of the ministry to 3 important sections. These were

The Three Tasks

a) Patriotism. In this he incorporated the appeal to national unity or the Volksgemeinschaft or peoples community. This was an important constituent of his plan and made the people identify with the concept of a German nation and its role in world affairs.

b) Racial Purity. This was another key element and consisted in drumming into the minds of the masses the concept of a super race or a race destined to rule the world. Propaganda that defined the Slavs and Jews as an inferior race was part of this section.

c) Leadership. Goebbels realized that masses can only be made to do what the state wants is by having a leader who towered all and was almost a superman. Thus the cult of Hitler was built up as the Fuhrer. A slogan was coined which spread to the heart of the populace. The slogan “One people, One Reich, one Fuhrer” echoed through out Germany.

Concept of State before the People

Dr. Goebbels was almost a psychologist who had the pulse of the German people in his grasp. He incorporated the concept of Kaiser Wilhelm “I recognize no parties, but only Germans” as a corner stone of his propaganda machinery. In addition he convinced the masses of their role as a super race in the world; a race destined to rule.

Nazi Ideology is Supreme: Phase II

Having launched their propaganda at the masses the Nazi’s went ahead to step II of their plan. They subverted the mass media and unsavory facts of the regime were never reported. They formed 3 tiers of support to further the Nazi aim. These were

a) The state machinery like civil service, police and armed forces

b) Use of terror as an instrument of state policy

c) Complete domination of every aspect of a citizen’s life.

Goodies for the German people.

The concept of Volksgemeinschaft could not have succeeded without material comfort and better wages for the German people. They also fed the concept of a better life with a wide range of sporting events and luxury pursuits. The Volkswagen car was part of this scheme. Overall the entire attempt was to indoctrinate the work force. Better working conditions were created and an attempt was made for the workers to identify with the leadership. Hitler was presented as the “First worker of the nation”.

Last Word

The German propaganda ministry worked over time to create a race of docile followers who would never break away from the ideology of the German Nazi party. It was a great plan and effectively executed. The pity is that Hitler over reached himself by attacking Russia and thus brought about his own destruction. One wishes he had studied Napoleon. But one can conclude the Dr. Goebbels was eminently successful in motivating the German people for the war effort

Tribute to John Wayne: Eternal Gun Fighter on Hollywood Screen

MY FAVORITE STAR IN A COWBOY ROLE: JOHN WAYNE

 

 

I was a small boy when John Wayne died in 1979. But even at that age  I loved the films of John Wayne and watched them in cinema halls with my friends while playing truant from school. Later,  I built up a collection of his films and have now over 90 of his films on my hard disk. For me there is no bigger star of cowboy films than John Wayne. Maybe Clint Eastwood would come a close second, but Wayne was the original macho star.

I saw his movie in a morning show in 1985 or 86  titled "True Grit". In this movie he plays an aging one eyed Marshal and the best scene is when he goes at the outlaws with the horses reins clenched in his mouth and both guns firing at the outlaws. It was a great shot and I am so glad that John Wayne won an Oscar as the best actor for this role in 1973.

Wayne was the original macho movie star. He had strong views about negroes. In one of his interviews in Playboy magazine he was asked what he thought of black rights. His reply was succinct and  lucid. He said "tell me in which country in the world does a black have a better life than in America?". How very true, as all over the world like in Africa, the black man is dying of hunger, malnutrition and internecine wars.

 

John Wayne was a tough star and he lived his roles. One can remember his roles in  The Horse Soldiers, Big Jake, North to Alaska, the Longest day, True Grit and many more. I am told he acted in almost 170 films and never played a role as a supporting actor.  I have almost 90 films of his on my computer and it gives me great pleasure to watch him action on a afternoon holiday with a glass of beer.

Wayne teamed up with all the top heroines of that era. In any case the career of John Wayne touched almost 40 years. He was honored posthumously with the President of the United states Freedom Medal in 1980.

John while filming close to the Nuclear test site suffered some radiation and later developed cancer of the stomach. I think he died prematurely in 1979. He lived a full life and married thrice with 7 children from 2 wives. But this is just an aside and one cannot forget his drawl and the cowboy hat and the blazing gun.  Truly a Hollywood great.

The Morale and Indian Military is at a Low Ebb 57

MODI IS MISSING THE BUS OF KNOWING WHAT IS THE ROLE OF MILITARY POWER

Narendra Modi appears to be doing all the right things on the world stage. He is now on his second  visit to the USA and has also interacted with the American president for a record 3 times. But I have a feeling that he is missing the wood for the trees. He like Nehru is unaware that economic power and world standing in the comity of nations depends a lot on military projection of power. One has only to see how China is forging ahead by positioning an aircraft carrier off the coast of Syria along with Russia. It is also building airfields on small islands in the China sea as well as letting their submarines roam in the Indian Ocean. It is in a strategic partnership with Pakistan and Russia as well. The crucial factor is morale, which appears to be high of the Chinese army. Morale is the single factor that propels an army forward, be it the US armed forces or Russia.

In contrast the Indian leadership from the time of Nehru is playing with the morale of the armed forces and as things stand, my information from sources is that morale of the Indian army and other services is ebbing. The one single factor that has affected this morale is non approval of One Rank One Pension in the concept as agreed by 2 parliaments and the Koshiari Commission appointed by parliament. This has led to an agitation, which is still going on. It is sad that the ex servicemen have to resort to this agitation to secure a legitimate demand.  Can one think of any nation in the world where such an agitation by ex soldiers  goes on for months and the government sits like the Sphinx ?

I hope readers will understand that morale is a quality that is ingrained in a fighting man. Also bear in mind that serving soldiers have a umbilical cord with the retired personnel and when they see their peers agitating its bound to affect the fighting man.  You cannot have an army  or air force fighting at its peak efficacy when their seniors are sitting and asking for what is already accepted. 

The governmnet under pressure from the RSS did sanction OROP, but it was a hollow action and the essence of what OROP needed to be approved was negated. One cannot understand how anyone can not understand that morale is very very important and by not sanctiong OROP and allowing the agitation to go on for almost 90 days does no credit to Modi. I wonder if he realises the damage that this agitation is inflicting not only on the armed forces but on india's standing in the world as a military power.

I have just returned froma conference in Chicage and I am pained to inform the readers that most men in uniform in the USA were aghast as to how a government  cannot grant a legitimate demand. The effect outside is bad and our enemies like China and Paksitan will be rubbing their hands with glee. Modi has committed a cardinal blunder and like Nehru may have to pay a terribl price. You cannot build a castle on sand and economic progress sans military power which is related to morale has no meaning.

What a Victory of Donald Trump will Mean for the World

The US presidential election is on this year, which makes it a decisive year for the US and the world. The world is concerned as to who will be the next American president as it is the most powerful country in the world  and also the policeman of the globe. Terrorist groups and Islamic militants have thus a more than passing interest as to who the next president will be.

As things stand the 2 front runners are Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Hillary is sure to get the DEMOCRATIC  party nomination , while Trump leads the pack in the Republican party. Presently Trump has a 25 point lead over his nearest rival Ted Cruz. 

If Trump gets the nomination, he will take on Hillary. The contrast between the two is stark and real, with Trump giving out of box solutions for the ills afflicting America. Hillary is less Inspiring and represents the status quo. 

Trump is forthright in his comments añd he has piñned the ills affecting the US from economy to security squarely on Obama and the Democrats. He is clear that one of the greatest threats is from Muslims. The attacks by Muslims in the US with the 9/11 in background have generated fear. Donald has played on those fears and has asked for a blanket ban on any Muslim entering the US. He would also like Muslims in the US to be profiled, like the Japanese in WW II.

His victory haS grave consequences for Muslims, who have joined the ISI and similar groups in force. A Trump as president will mean a roll back of the policy of appeasement of Obama and a frontal attack on Islamic militancy. This will have wide ramifications and one hopes Trump will help crush ISI and its ilk. But I am sure it wont be a cake walk.

The chemistry of the sex act has yet not been fully understood and it cannot be the basis of world unity.

The human being is a complex piece of Gods invention. It has varied emotions and one of them is sex and desire. Generally it transcends all barriers at the given moment of the sex act. But the prelude to it and the aftermath develop different emotions.
In the middle of the last century a gentleman named Dr Ward made news. It appeared he lived of prostitutes and that was the crime for which he was charged. Dr. Ward committed suicide, but one statement of his that all he was trying to do was to break racial barriers through the sex act needs examination. He felt that copulation between black and white and white and black would break barriers and the races can integrate.

On the face of it, this looks a very plausible hypothesis because Dr. Ward has simplified a complex chemistry and reduced it to a single act. In real terms this is not possible as there is another quality of human beings that cannot be ignored and that are jealousy and racial superiority, not forgetting religion. These are the divisive forces and till they are erased this theory cannot function. The sex act is a representation of this thought process and the chance that a man or woman who considers himself or herself as belonging to a chosen race or religion will accept sex as a common denominator is well nigh impossible. Thus the Muslim Moghul rulers could countenance sex and marriage with Rajput princesses, yet they could not allow the same privilege to Rajput Hindu kings to have sex and marry Muslim girls.

Thus the Germans during the reign of Hitler and the Moslem invaders and much later the white race have ingrained ideas of sex and race. Matters went to the extreme in South Africa where the policy of Apartheid firmly debarred sex between black and white races. In the USA also organizations like the KKK( ka Klux Klan) believed in purity of the white race and murdered blacks who had sex with white women.
Thus the fact is that though sex is extremely desirable, yet it cannot form a basis of unity of the races in the world. Perhaps the complexities of relationships between man and woman have as yet not been deciphered.
