Narendra Modi is the Chief Minister of Gujarat state in Western India. He is a man who rouses strong passions for and against him, but many people are realizing that what he has done in Gujarat is something unique. He has developed Gujarat as never before and accolades are pouring in appreciating his work from far corners of the world.
One of the most potent comments about him and his work has come from a committee of the Congress, the United States senate. They have in a write-up opined that Narendra Modi is a man who has brought prosperity to Gujarat and good governance. They have also mentioned that Modi is Prime Minister material and the next general election will see a battle between Modi and the scion of the Gandhi family, Rahul Gandhi.
The United States Congress is not the only organization eulogizing the work of Modi, but in Indian many famous industrialists like Ratan Tata and Mukesh Ambani have echoed these sentiments.
Modi is a man of vision. There was a cloud on him for the Gujarat riots of 2002, but the recent Supreme Court judgment absolving Modi of any dereliction of duty or misconduct has acted as a rejuvenating factor for him
The stage is now set for Modi to appear on the national stage. In that respect his recent fast for peace is in the right direction. Reluctantly the BJP leadership has had to acquiescence, though people like Sushma Swaraj have their own ambitions. If the BJP can sink their differences and project Modi as the next prime Minister, victory at the hustings will follow.
I can only hope that the BJP top brass see the writing on the wall and back Modi whole heartedly. The result can only be good and may lead the BJP back to power. But Narendra Modi has to be given recognition.
